I personally loved these two Rob Zombie horror films, especially The Devil's Rejects. What did everybody else think of them?

Youre gonna hate me but I was very disapointed in Devils Rejects... I think of that as almost the same thing as Saw 2. It just a movie where we learn who the killers are rather then real horror films. But S2 was more of a horror film like the first then DR was. DR really wasn't a horror movie to me. But I did like House of 1000 I thought that was creepy.

I loathe House Of 100 Corpses, but I love Devil's Rejects.
I saw Rejects in theaters and I own the DVD.
1000 Corpses was weak in my opinion.

You definately need to check them both out Hangman! Yeah, House was a lot weaker than TDR. I liked House pretty well, although it wasn't great and the last 20 minutes kind of ruined it for me a bit. You're right, TDR isn't really a horror film, it's more of an exploitation/revenge film. I loved it to death though!

I agree that Rejects isn't horror, but the tone of it is appropriate.

Yeah, that's how Zombie kept it fresh, by changing it up quite a bit. It's not often you see a sequel that is way more critically acclaimed than the original. My local paper rated it as an "A" and they only give like 5% of movies A ratings.

I thought House of 1000 Corpses was a great homage film and definitely a great film for a first time director. The Devil's Rejects is way better and it is a exploitation/revenge film, which I love! So yes The Devil's Rejects is better.

Yeah, a lot of people don't realize that House of 1000 Corpses was filmed way before it came out. I think it was made in 2000 and came out in 2003, so that was way back when Zombie was first getting into directing. So if you take that into account, I'd say it's pretty damn good.

Yea. I think people give House of 1000 Corpses to much of a hard time. It really is a fun horror film.

Eh, TDR is way better, but Corpses is pretty cool, too. I don't think either one are slasher films, though, so this may not be the best place for this thread. Just a thought

I think House is a slasher film. It's so similar to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and that's considered a slasher film. No TDR isn't a slasher film really, but you could argue that's it's not even really horror. I was just lumping them together in one thread because people usually end up referencing one film or the other anyway if you make a thread about just one them.

I agree with HNT. I don't consider HO1KC to be a slasher. I also don't consider TCM a slasher either because it doesn't really fit into that category.

I think they're absolutely slashers. Sure, there's other elements like exploitation and all that, so they're not "pure" slasher films, but a dude with a chainsaw is a slasher. Every horror description I've read has listed TCM as a classic slasher movie, including Hangman's writeup in this very board.

Yeah I'd agree. Movies like House of 1000 corpses and TCM draw from a lot of other genres and horror sub genres, but I'd still say they can be classified as slashers.

I don't consider TCM a slasher because it does not fit into the typical genre of slashers. Sure it has stuff in common like the villain using some kind of weapon that you can "slash" with, the killer wears a mask, and the killer kills teens. Thats is where most of the things in common stop though. Unlike the typical slashers TCM does not really have any comedic relief. The film is dark and unrelenting tell the very end with the disturbing dinner table scene. The gritty visuals along with everything else helps to point out that this film knows nothing of slashers and is purely a unique horror film that came along in the 70's. There is a realness to TCM that just cannot compare to any slasher film, and is another one of the main reasons it doesn't fit into the genre. When you are watching it, it's almost as if you are watching a documentary and you can't help but feel that this movie is one of the most original things ever commited to celluloid.

Nah, slasher films have certain genre requirements. they are full of teens being punished fo having fun and drinking, doing drugs, having sex etc. There is none of that in TCM or Corpses. these kids are jsut mregular kids who happen upon a really messed up situation. TRhe killers are not at all supernatural, and they don't have cheezy or easily explained goofy motivations. All of those traits are hallmarks of the slasher genre. TCM and corpses are exploitation films. That is a different and much cooler animal
