This was my favourite movie for a long time.
I was always a huge fan of Hitchcock.
It is a shame that it had to be remade so poorly.

Having Norman Bates...pleasuring himself was completely uncalled for.

He did that in the remake when he was spying on Anne Heche.
In the original he just peeped.

I personally feel that the original had a more effective corpse of Mrs. Bates.

I do indeed.
Hitchcock had a great screenwriter on board when he made the movie.

I really like Anne Heche too, believe it or not. Among other fabulous accessories, she has a truly lovely rack. Oh my!

Anne Heche has neither the talent nor the good looks to even approach Janet Leigh. Not even close in my book. I was surprised to see that Vince Vaughn did a pretty good job as Norman Bates, but despite that that remake stands as one of the dumbest, most pointless remakes, or even MOVIES of all time. The whole concept of a "shot for shot" remake boggles the mind a bit.
Anyway, Psycho is a great movie. Way ahead of its time. When you watch it today, it feels like it could've come out yesterday. It has a very modern pace, and the acting is just about perfect. The unprecedented move of killing the lead character, leaving you wondering what the hell is going on is just as amazing today as I'm sure it had to be back when it was released. Great movie.

The way the light swings and her skeletal face is visible is cool.

Psycho is a great film. THe remake blows. THat said, I think it was prety clear that Norman was pleasuring himself in the original as well. THey didn';t show it, because the film was made in 1960 and they really couldn't back then, but they sure implied it. He looked in on her undressing through a peephole and then started breathing heavily while they showed a close up of his eye. Then his "mother" got jealous. What would have caused that reaction if he hadn't stroked the salami?

Never thought of it that way.
Hitchcock was very inventive with getting it into the film.

Oh don't get me wrong. Janet Leigh was a hard act to follow for sure. I just think Anne Heche is really pretty. That's it.
