Steven Harper is a most certianly Conservative.
He only won because the previous Liberal government had been in power for 12 years and was involved in a Sponsorship scandal.
It is a minority government, so they are going along very carefully as to avoid a vote of no confidence.

Hypothetically, if a leader was popular enough, they could stay for 20 years.

I guess that is problematic, but I would be ok with Clinton leading us indefinitely like that. I think that it probably all works itself out because no leader could ever stay popular for that long in office without pissing a lot of people off. I could be wrong about aht, though. You guys who live on parliamentary govt's would know better than I would

The Liberals went through two leaders in that period of time. |
