I have just sort of started to get into Black Metal and I fucking love it! I have quite a few Mp3's on my computer. I just started my CD collection though, so I bought Satyricon- Dark Medieval Times and Immortal- Battles in the North. I love Immortal and Emperor. I haven't gotten to listen to Satyricon yet and I still haven't gotten to hear a whole lot of Mayhem which I really wish I hope I can listen to soon. Anyways Black Metal is fucking great. Any other fans out there?

Mayhem has a messed up past.
A former band member committed suicude by blowing out his brains and the other members made necklaces out of the skull fragments.
I like the gloomy nature of Black Metal as it really has a cool tone to it.
Norwegian Black Metal is cool.

Yea I know that was Dead who shot himself...kinda ironic with his name and all. Anyways story goes that Varg from Burzum sent Dead shotgun shells in the mail, so Dead actually used them to commit suicide. Varg was questioned, but he said it was a joke and didn't know that Dead would take it seriously. After that Varg helped out the band with some tracks. There was also a bootleg CD released called Dawn Of The Black Hearts which featured a picture of Dead after the aftermath of his suicide on the CD cover. Later on Varg got into it with Mayhem's lead singer Euronymous and murdered him. Varg is now in prison, but Im not sure how long he is serving, Im pretty sure it's not life though.

Yea I know. Alot of peoeple like Burzum. I don't really like Burzum though, because of what Varg did and he talks about all this nationalistic nazi crap all the time. He's pretty gay.

Anything Nazi-related would be a turn off for me as well.

For me the only Emperor CD worth bothering with is Wrath of the Tyrant. Into the Nightside Eclipse is a good one too, but they went downhill after that one, imo.
Also that stuff about Varg sending the shotgun shells to Dead is a myth. Most of the stories about Varg vs. Mayhem aren't true. Varg is pretty much a douchebag, but most blackmetal band dudes are dumbasses! They are all posing to be these super-grim dark spooky guys, and it's embarrassing!!! One of the only cool BM "celebrity" is maybe Fenriz, cause he isn't trying to be so dark. He says a bunch of crazy shit in the interviews and stuff. Most of these guys think that smiling and laughing is against the rules or something. Varg's political views are a big joke to me, but his music ruled. For me, the views of the guy in the band don't matter. I only care about the music.
Burzum's BM albums are some of the best of the early 90's Norway scene. To me the only band that topped them was Darkthrone, some others had great albums, but those two had about 4 classics each, whereas most of the others only made 1 or at the most 2 masterpieces.
Check out Darkthrone's Trasylvanian Hunger if you haven't already. It rules. For Burzum I reccomend Det Som Engang Var and Filosofem. And for Immortal, their classic is Pure Holocaust, which is my favorite BM album ever. It's ultra-grim! hehe
There are still a few BM bands that are still around I like, mostly in the "war metal" category. Bands like Revenge, Axis of Advance, Black Witcery, Sadistik Exekution and the like. Those bands are all the superfast and extreme style of black metal. The bands that play that stuff are the only ones that are still making good shit. Black Metal is pretty much dead now. The best stuff is the Norwegian scene from the early 90's, and a few select others, but there are almost no good new BM bands coming out, as you probably know.
I've got a bunch of good BM songs on my comp. I'll make a cool mix CD of some good stuff that you probably have not heard yet & upload & send it to you Inf3ct.

Wrath of the Tyrant is a great album, but I like Into the Nightside Eclipse better. I have not listened to Darkthrone yet, but I was about to buy one of their albums the other day. Anyways Immortal rules man! Pure Holocaust is awsome, but I also love Battles in the North. Yea BM is pretty much dead now, but I still love it. Just like I love old horror films compared to the crap coming out today.

Burzum did 2 ambient albums, so most of his stuff was black metal. Those ambient things suck really bad, even for ambient, which to me all sucks pretty bad!! He said in a recent interview that when he's released he'll go back to black metal. His release is supposed to be this year, so we'll see. I'm looking forward to hearing it, but he'll maybe do like Jon from Dissection did, and come out with crap when he gets out of prison.

Yea who knows. I though I read that somewhere awhile back too. Didn't he say he is tired of Black Metal, but since thats all he is good at that he is going to go back to doing it.

As far as I can remember he didn't say that in the intie I read, but he may have said it elsewhere. Basically what he was saying in what I read was that he still liked it, and his widely quoted statements about how he'd never play BM again were lies he'd told in interviews to get people off his back about what he'd do when he got out of prison.
I look forward to hearing the new stuff. He's said it sounds like the Det Som Engang Var album if I remember correctly (maybe he said Hviss Lysett....) so hopefully it'll be cool.
