Yeah, I think the motive was to kill someone in a horrific fashion and possibly even draw in cops and attempt to have them killed along with him.
It's just a freaky situation because it seems like something out of a movie. It's creepy to think stuff like this happens in real life.

Thats a crazy ass story!
He would of had to be totally deranged to come up with a plan like that.. The whole plan and creativity looks more like a team effort than a single persons idea.. I just dont get what they wanted out the situation. They didnt get the money.
"However, it was later determined that regardless of what unfolded, Wells would never have had enough time to complete the tasks to get the bomb defused."
Was this just the villians sick twisted idea? or that of a deranged man?
"He was utterly calm, a witness remembered, almost eerily so."
He knew that the bomb was going to go off, and he was calm and not scared sh*tless i would of been!
Its really odd. Was this guy given some sort of drug? or was he insane...
The cane gun looks really weird n creepy as well it looks like a movie prop.. It looks very simalar to the Jokers cane gun from Batman with Nicholson as the joker..
Plus the device has pictures of 4 cartoon characters on it as well that look like cartoon faces of the beatles did anyone else check that pic out? is that some sort of weird symbol that lets the public now that theres 4 criminals or just an elaborate plot by Wells?
It really does sound like a horror flick plot...
Frightening to know that if it wasnt his own plan that the bad guys are still out there and could do it again.. And he died in such a horriffic way.

Yeah, this story really interests me, because it's so weird.
I really don't think Wells had anything to do with it. Most of the evidence seems to point against that. He was a simple guy who didn't care about money, and he was looking forward to a family gathering a week later. It doesn't seem he'd be planning a bank robbery/killing/suicide. And his sister saw him that morning and said he gave her a big warm smile. Also, the FBI determined Wells couldn't have made the bomb or the cane gun because he had no such knowledge. So even if he were involved, which I highly doubt, there were others involved as well.
The authorities think the motive was killing not money and I tend to agree with that, but what really bothers me is the cane gun. Why did the plotters take the time to make such an elaborate piece of weaponry if they planned for the robbery to fail anyhow. It's pretty strange.
It's also weird that Wells was calm, but it could be he thought maybe the bomb was fake and wouldn't go off. He told the police it was 3-7 people who attacked him. Also, the note of instructions from the plotters says that they'd be watching him every step of the way. And if the motive was just a sick way to kill someone, you'd think after all that planning, they would be watching from a distance for sick entertainment. There was a man with shaggy hair spotted lurking near the woods across from where Wells was apprehended by the police, watching the events unfold, and the police put out a sketch of him, but no leads came of it.
It is creepy thinking these people are still out there somewhere...

Sure is..
Was it prooved that the cane gun was actually able to work properly.. I know it had real gun components but was it supposed to be just another ploy by the villians in there mad scheme...
Kinda wierd like ya say why would they build such a devise if they planned on just killing the guy...
Odd case.. very odd..

I never read whether the cane gun worked, or what the authorities thought the reasons for it was. They did say it would have take skill to make, so I assume that means it worked, but I can't be sure.

Exactly right. It's hard to believe that this really happened. And even harder to believe that our ridiculous Gov't over here didn't try to convince us that the terrorists did it and we had to bomb some random arab dudes
