Ok man. I don't see you complaining about H.P. Lovecraft stories with racism in them though.

His lyrics are not overtly racist, but there is inference there. In Norway there are many people who are pissed that they lost their culture to Christianity, and that's Vargs main thing of course, and what his lyrics are mostly about is that. But, he is a racist, and a murdering loose cannon psycho as well, and I think that is far worse than him believing the strange things he does.
Something that often bugs me about people who single out Buzum, but like some of the other old scandinavian BM bands is that there are so many of the others with members that have made comments in the media that were racist, or had members involved in hate crimes, and yet Burzum is the only one they hate. Lots of people seem to have forgotten how common it was for these guys to believe the exact same shit that Varg does, though they all have backed away from it media-wise in recent times.

I know. I understand the whole culture thing, but I don't care for the racist stuff that alot of these guys talk about. If the music is goog though I will listen to them. Just like I will read H.P. Lovecraft even though you get racism in most of his stories.

I've never been a particularly big fan of BM in general. I have the same criticisms of Darkthrone and Mayhem (though they clearly re not nearly as absurd as Varg is). The only BM band that I rally enjoy is Emperor, and I have made it a point not to listen to anything with Bard Eithune on it. I may be many things, but when it comes to racism I am not a hypocrite.
he HP Lovecraft argument also doesn't quite hold water. He was a racist. His stories are not, however, treatises on his philosophies and world view. He may have allowed some of his personal beliefs to filter into his fiction, but hi goal was never to preach a hate filled ideology as if it were somethng to personally emulate

True, but if your taking ideologies and philosophies in a BM song seriously then you shouldn't listen to it and if the band is taking them seriously then they need to re-evaluate themselves. Obviously people like Varg are crazy and racist. I just don't take them seriously. I don't listen to BM for their philosphies or anything. I just listen to it for the music.
