One must die and reanimate in order to be a zombie.
The above picture shows a person who has been infected with rage and hasn't eaten any food in a very long time, as they have been too busy trying to attack people.

When watching it again, I noticed that when the infected boy said "I hate you," it seemed to be post-dubbed, as the boys lips weren't moving at the time.
It must have been added as an afterthought.

Did anyone catch the references to various zombie movies? The chained Mailer is a reference to Bub in Day Of The Dead, as well as the military being in charge of an area. Also, the shopping scene was straight out of Dawn '78. Scriptwriter Alex Garland acknowledges several sources as inspiration for his screenplay, notably John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids (1962), George A. Romero's "Dead" trilogy (Night, Dawn and Day) and The Omega Man (1971). Direct homages include Jim waking up in the hospital from The Day of the Triffids (1962), the chained infected being studied from Day of the Dead (1985), and the scene in the grocery store (people in the mall from Dawn of the Dead (1978)), the stop for supplies that saw a run-in with infected children (also Dawn of the Dead (1978)), and the military holing up against the plague with outsiders partially to deliberately include females (also Day of the Dead).www.imdb.com/title/tt0289043/trivia

Lets expand the debate...
Since Jesus rose from the dead, and advocated the eating of flesh and drinking of blood (communion) does that make him a zombie?

If anyone calls The Crazies a zombie movie I will have to smack them.

The Crazies is definitely not a zombie film. It is, however, very similar to 28 Days Later, thus proving tht it isn't a zombie film either

It is, however, very similar to 28 Days Later, thus proving tht it isn't a zombie film either My point exactly! 28 Days Later took a lot from The Crazies, as both have people that are infected with a manufactured virus which causes extreme behaviour. I would love to ask Danny Boyle if he thinks they are zombies. Also, if this is the "new age" of zombie, why aren't there dozens of other films with the same kind of theme? Resident Evil, ROTLD, the Living Dead movies and countless others portray flesh eating undead creatures, while there is only one movie like 28 Days Later...28 Days Later. It was simply made during a fruitful period of time for the horror movie industry, so it got mashed in.

Danny Boyle, the director of the movie, [glow=red,2,300]doesn't [/glow]consider them zombies.
He says so in the commentary to the movie.

I have been reflecting on this issue, and I came up with a few realizations:
-There is no such thing as a "new" vampire or zombie, as "old-style" zombie movies are still being made -Blade and 28 Days Later can't be rationally compared -The infected were out of breath in some scenes (Zombies don't breathe) -The movie could be viewed as a different take on the issue of infection and biological warfare

28 Days Later was great.
I consider them zombies. Just a different kind of zombie, like there are different kinds of vampires and werewolves. A zombie is a fictional thing and can come in many varieties.

Show me different kinds of vampires and werewolves, and how they relate to the living, breathing "zombies" in 28 Days Later.
The only kind of vampire I know of is the one that is undead and drinks blood.
Only the Blade movies and Underworld toyed with the concept of vampires.
The only kind of werewolf I know of is the kind that is a man and turns into a wolf-man when the moon is full.
Again, Underworld can be referenced.
However, despite the slightly different take on vampires and werewolves, the movies still had the same creature principles.

"Zombie" Jason is a whole other story.
He never really dies, just takes a break from killing.

so why is jason voorhees can be called a zomie ay jeremy Because he is resurrected from the dead in the beginning of Part 6. Prior to that, nobody would have called him a zombie

no but jason dont eat persons and he can run and we do see him breathing so how the hell can he be a zombie if the 28 days later killers are not

The name "zombie" Jason doesn't literally that he is a zombie, but that he is not what he used to be.

I think some people needed a term to differentiate the two Jason's, and that name just stuck.
